The first stage is to remove everything!
This project calls for a complete gut. The wrecking crew, consists of Gavin, Brennan, Adam, Henry and myself.
Day one: We begin by removing all of the doors and casings. Followed by all wood work, base boards, window casings, beams and cabinets. After this we broke out the sledge hammers and took out the three fireplaces and stone walls.
Day two: We begin the endless task of removing all of the drywall. While this huge job is being tackled, I begin on the electrical, isolating just one breaker for the furnace and one for power tools.
Day three: We attacked all of the plumbing, removing all of the old copper, keeping one bathroom operational for the crew. Henry removed the kitchen and the boys continued with the drywall.
Day four: Brennan and I pulled all of the old wiring out, then the bathroom tubs, showers, tile and fixtures. Adam and Gavin packed endless amounts of drywall and wood, either up the stairs or down the stairs to the bins.
Day five: More drywall, plumbing and old insulation.
We estimate 6 days for this task, 3900 sq feet, versus 5 men…… loads to do!
